Aneurysm movie Kickstarter is live!!

This movie really does sound incredible, with a lot of awesome talent in front and behind of the camera. Just check out the press release below!

Inspired loosely by the scores of 'seemingly random' tragedies, both past and present; such as Columbine, Sandy Hook, Charles Whitman the notorious "Clock Tower Shooter" and the recent manhunt for murderous LAPD Officer Christopher Dorner; 'Aneurysm' follows three nightmarish days in the life of young, prosperous architect Jack York.

Jack is given terrible news on the eve of his fifth straight 'Humanitarian of the Year' win; he has a massive blood clot that will surface as an aneurysm in the Limbic System of his brain. This aneurysm will kill him, instantly; or in the slimmest chance, leave him functionally invalid for the rest of his life.

Devastated, because he wont be able to witness the birth and life of his first child, Jack goes into an emotional tailspin. Lost in dealing with so many things bigger than himself; death, destiny and the closure of his life, Jack searches for solace and the answers to troubling problems in his life from the past and present. Then, the aneurysm hits.

But, instead of killing Jack, the aneurysm eviscerates his mind, sending him on a day long, city wide killing spree that ends up destroying everyone and everything important in his life and exposes the world at large to something far darker than just your average, everyday tragedy... Something that will change the face of humanity, forever.

Aneurysm (who's script was compared to the works of "Stephen King" by legendary Scream Queen Adrienne Barbeau) isn't just another horror film, or thriller, it is a dramatic study of the psychological and medical factors that can and do lead to the every day tragedies that punctuate the fabric of our existence. It is also a fictional exploration of the overarching consequences these tragedies have on humanity as a whole.

Once financing is in place, Aneurysm will feature an international cast headlined by the film's director Damien Sage, Academy Award Nominee Genevieve Bujold, leading man of the Raleigh NC Theater scene Jon Skinner, Cult Icon Mary Woronov (who will also be serving as a producer), and Superstar of the French Indie Scene Pierre Perrier.

It will also feature Horror Icon Lynn Lowry (who will also be serving as an associate producer) and Veteran Character Actor Giovanni Lombardo Radice in supporting roles.

Acclaimed English Actress Romola Garai and Italian Beauty Carolina Crescentini are being considered for the leading lady, and Androgynous Male Supermodel Andrej Pejic, star of the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" Booboo Stewart and another Superstar of the French Indie Scene Cyrille Thouvenin are being courted for other supporting roles.

The Soundtrack for the film will feature New Original Songs by KMFDM, The Birthday Massacre, Kavinsky, !!! (Chk Chk Chk) and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Escape the Fate will also most likely be joining the soundtrack, once all is in place.

In the effort to maintain maximum realism in the scenes of horror needed for Aneurysm's more brutal moments legendary special effects maestro Tom Savini will be coming out of retirement to do them through practical means, live on set.

Lastly, Roger Yuan, fight choreographer for Skyfall will be handling the two major action scenes of the film; leading Aneurysm to have a staggering array of talent in front of and behind the camera, usually reserved for much larger budgeted fare.

House of Good and Evil (2013).

It's amazing when cinematography manages to enhance the feeling of a movie. House of Good and Evil is one of the films where the camera is so involved in the story with many tilted angle shots creaking up the tension in each scene.

The movie also has an inherent misery running through it, which adds considerable weight to an already emotional film. The film tells the story of a married couple who set off to the country to re-start their lives and purchase a new home after a distressing incident involving pregnancy. From the opening scene, seeing the couple argue inside their own home, it is uncomfortable viewing, and definitely creates a fair amount of empathy for the characters, as you can see their relationship is in trouble.

Things go from bad to worse once they begin moving into the new home,which has an adjoining property which they are told will be vacated in thirty days time, as the family next door are looking at properties in Florida.

As the husband leaves his wife alone, she hears noises, voices and even a phone ringing next door. As her husband leaves her for longer and longer, the film asks many questions. Is her husband playing tricks on her? Is it the neighbors? Is the wife imagining everything?

The film doesn't answer this question right away, and is all the better for it. It lets the viewer dwell on many things. Could the wife be going crazy? Could it really be her husband? By the final scenes, everything is tied up and makes sense, but the sadness and darkness that prevails over the entire film lingers on. It definitely lodges itself in your mind, and won't let go for a long while after viewing.

This movie definitely delivers an incredibly tense story, filled with sadness and loss, and should appeal to any horror fans that enjoy their stories rooted in realistic scenarios.

Interview with Derek Huey, Co-producer of Conjoined and co-owner of Nerdremix.com.

Here is an interview I very recently did with Derek Huey, the co-awesome co-owner of Nerdremix.com and now co-producer of new movie Conjoined. The movie tells the tale of a lonely guy who finally meets the girl of his dreams. There is a problem though. His dream girl is conjoined with a psychotic twin sister! I first met Derek nearly seven years ago (purely in an online capacity, seeing as we live in different parts of the world) and we even used to write for the same website. I am really surprised he has managed to keep this movie a secret from everyone, and am really looking forward to seeing the end product! So without further ramblings from me, here we go.

How did you get involved in Conjoined?
 
Well it's a funny story actually... Joe messaged me one day, and was like "want to help with a movie"? I didn't even really need to ask what it was about, and almost automatically agreed. So I was there the first day at the studio, not even knowing we were even making a full feature film.


How does it feel to be involved in the movie business?
 
Ha ha, I never thought of being in the movie business after finishing Conjoined.
I'll comment on this later when I can get enough money from film to support my bad habits!

Who is involved with Conjoined?

A really small group of really talented people. It's directed by Joe Grisaffi (Dead of Knight) and written by Chuck and Tim Norfolk (Haunted Trailer). The main character named Stanley is played by Tom Long, who is quite an amazing actor. Then we have Keefer Barlow playing the psycho sister, whose on screen crying is really quite impressive. We have the very funny Jacob Byrd, who plays Jerry which is possibly my favorite role in this film . Then we have the really talented Sara Gaston, whose acting is always really excellent.

How was it working with Joe Grisaffi and Chuck Norfolk?
 
I think Chuck put it the best when he stated on set that we are "living the dream".

What are your hopes of The Conjoined?

I hope people enjoy it and have fun with it. It's definitely not a film to be taken seriously. It's funny, even a little sexy, and quite bloody. So I hope any fan of low budget cheese will enjoy it.

How long did Conjoined take to shoot?

About 9 days, but with that said, one of the days we actually worked for about fourteen hours straight. Normally I would say this is a very short shooting schedule, but since we had such talented people working on this, the whole project was finished drama-free and fairly quickly

Was the shoot difficult?

A few shots we had to do in one take, which pretty much meant it had to be perfect the first time, and if it wasn't, too bad. Thank god, with plenty of preparation, nothing was really too difficult. You always hear about bad stuff happening on set, or just people having the worst luck possible. With the exception of construction, and shooting around a generator sound, the shoots went really smooth.

Do you have any funny or strange stories from the shoot?

You know, there was tons of laughs during filming this. Chuck and I kept cracking up while Joe was filming. We did a really good job of keeping our laughs contained in our bellies, but I think we might had to retake a few scenes from us laughing (especially the operating room, one laugh the whole room shakes). There's a few other stories I'd like to share, but it would spoil a bit of the movie, so i'll just keep those a secret for now.

What is next for Derek Huey? Do you have any plans to make your own films?

What's next? I've been working on a script lately about Killer Gnomes, maybe I'll do something with that. It's a real Puppet Master type film, which will be completely over the top.

Will the partnership of Huey, Grisaffi and Norfolk be working together on anything else?

I'm pretty sure Joe and Chuck would agree with me when I say if this film does well, there will be more in the future. Working with Joe and Chuck was so fun, and the production went so smooth. It IS a dream come true, and I would like to continue the dream.

15-5-08 short film review.

Within the space of nearly seventeen minutes this new short from up the up and coming Sick Bunny Pictures manages to crank up tension levels incredibly high, which is an incredibly amazing feat in itself. The short has a subdued introduction, with a group of friends watching the house of their neighbors, who they had assumed had gone away. But there appears to be a light on in the house, and things become increasingly more unsettled until a brutal and unexpected ending shakes things up before the credits roll.

In it's short run time, this movie displays an incredible amount of talent, both from the people behind the scenes and from the people in front of the camera. Dialogue flows naturally, and the hushed tones the actors speak in make things all the more ominous.

The ending hits the viewer like a short sharp shock, and just when you think things are going to happen off camera, you get shocked again. I will give absolutely nothing more away about what happens though, because it has to be seen, to be experienced to be believed.

For a debut movie, this shows just how talented the guys at Sick Bunny Pictures are. They blend together the found footage genre and the slasher, but also layer on an insane amount of suspense that makes the viewer squirm in their seat. It works so well, I cannot wait to see what Sick Bunny Pictures have up their sleeves in the future for us! Believe me, these guys want to scare the living hell out of you!

Motel Hell (Arrow Video Blu Ray release).

"It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters".

What a tag line. Motel Hell is one of those movies that could only have been made in the eighties. It is an incredibly twisted and often hilarious ride into the macabre. Although the films pace is slow, the further along it went, the more sick and crazy it got, which in turn made me even more engrossed in the weirdness on screen.

The movie is set in a fictitious town in the deep south of America, where people come from far and wide to sample the delights of Farmer Vincent's distinctively flavored produce. One might ask the question why do so many of these visitors not stay in the nearby motel the family also runs? Affectionately named Motel Hello (the neon 'O' on the sign seems to be constantly on the blink), some visitors do choose to stay there, although after checking in, they never seem to check out again! Could it have something to do with Farmer Vincents amazing fritters? Is that why they taste so darn good?

The acting is played totally straight, and comes off all the more wacky for that very reason. It certainly is incredibly similar to Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 in spirit. The film is incredibly funny, with many of the supporting characters coming across as hilarious. Also, there is very little visible gore, but this really takes absolutely nothing away from what is a great movie from the 80's.

Arrow really have pushed the boat out with this release, and the awesome double sided cover and pristine transfer of the movie are only the beginning, and believe me, the transfer really is incredible. There is so much depth in the picture, so much clarity, it really is incredible. You get an insightful commentary track from director Kevin Connor that is moderated by Callum Waddell and four incredibly interesting featurettes which feature an interview with star Paul Linke and an interview with co-star Rosanne Katon amongst others.

There is also a collectors booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by Kim Newman, illustrated with archive stills and posters, plus Motel Hell comic extracts and an exclusive interview with Chris Moreno.

This is another incredible release from Arrow Video, and is the first time Motel Hell has been released anywhere in the world on Blu-Ray. I urge you all to pick up a copy, as this is one of those films that certainly benefits from nostalgia, and is a heart warming, gut wrenching trip back in time!

You'd certainly have to have been buried in a field with a bag over your head not to enjoy this one!

Mister White (2013).

Another incredibly entertaining, emotional and brutal indie movie is here, and it really did blow me away!

Tyler is your typical 'outcast' kid at college. Since high school he has been bullied, particularly by a group of good looking 'normal' kids who are incredibly relentless in their berating of Tyler. There is a member of this group, Summer, who seems to have a soft spot for Tyler, but she is under so much pressure from her friends to join in, that even she finds it hard to stop her friends in their relentless bullying campaign.

We are then introduced to a legend of an evil doctor, whose death gave birth to Mister White. Tyler really cannot take the bullying anymore, and decides to summon Mister White through an old voodoo curse. When Tyler introduces Mister White to his enemies, they will learn an incredibly harsh lesson. One that ends in death.

This movie is a slasher movie at heart, but is so layered with emotion and despair that it never gets boring. The characters are so well realized that it really is hard to feel sorry for the bullies as they meet their untimely demise. The movie did an incredible job of showing just how cowardly these people were before they met their demise, and that was a little touch I absolutely loved!

The whole premise of the movie is incredible, and draws you instantly towards Tyler, making you feel for every barbed comment that is thrown his way, and making you seriously want to see the bullies meet their maker in rather brutal ways.

The whole movie looks incredible. The camera work is beautiful, making you feel an even closer affinity with Tyler and his brutal treatment at the hands of other people. The story moves along at a great pace, and it is so involving it definitely warrants a second, third and even forth viewing.

Writer/producer/director Erica Summers is another name to watch out for in indie horror. This movie is incredible on every level, and is a great achievement for indie horror, touching the viewers heart as well as their gag reflex.

Mister White is an incredible slasher/revenge movie, but don't let that basic description put you off seeing it, as it brings so much more to the table and involves the viewer so deeply that this is a movie it's impossible not to fall in love with.
